Plot-The book "Chinese Cinderella" by Adeline Yen Mah is about a unwanted daughter named Adeline.Adeline's mother died giving birth to her thats why her brothers and sister call her bad luck.So Adelin's dad remarries. Her stepmother already had a son and a daughter, she only likes them two.
Adeline's favorite person is Aunt Baba because she was the one that was always there when ever she needed her. Throughout this book Adeline describes how she feels. Since her stepmother only likes her two kids they get two sleep downstairs. One day her other brothers were talking how they were going to write to their dad in english how they felt that it was not fair that their stepmother gave everything to her kids and not to them. When one of the brothers went out he saw their stepmother had listening to every word they had said, so the stepmother allowed big sister to sleep downstairs with her and their dad, so the plan would'nt work The stepmother one day said that they were not allowed to ask for any more money from anyone. Aunt Baba always gave Adeline money but nobody knew. One day the mother found out and told Aunt Baba not to give her any more money.
One day Mrs. Huang (a lady who worked a few years at Grand Aunt's bank with Aunt Baba) and her husband bought a little duck for each of the kids.Adeline named hers PLT(Precious little treasure) but one day her dad said to bring one of the ducks so they can test out Jackie's(their dog) obediance so oviosly they brought ot PLT. As soon as Jackie saw PLT he ran to it and grabbed PLT with his jaws and started running with PLT in his mouth ten he dropped her, when Adeline saw this she knew PLT was dead, she burried PLT the next day.
At school Adeline made many friends because she was smart.One day her Wu Chun-mei friend was going to have a birthday party on a holiday and Adeline was invited but she knew that her stepmother would'nt let her since there was no school and her step mother didn't know that Adeline went to Wu Chun- mei's birthday party she had so much fun then she had to go home as soon as they were going to cut the cake her friend begged her to stay but she said she would come later. When she got home her stepmother asked her why she was home so early and Adeline told her that the teacher had let them out early. Adeline didn't return to her friends house so her friend called her house. Her parents send her to boarding school in Tianjin and from there to Hong Kong. In the end of the book there was a competition and Adeline entered in it and she one fifty english pounds her father lets her go to collage in England just like her other brothers she was very proud of herself.

Characters- Adeline- Adeline is the main character in the book. Adeline was an unwanted daughter because her mother died giving birth to her and they called her bad luck. Adeline didn't like her stepmother because she only liked her kids. At school Adeline always won prizes she was very happy of what she did only her aunt Baba wold congratulate her.
I don't understand why Adeline was unwanted and considered bad luck just because her mother died giving birth to her.It wasn't Adeline's fault her mother just had a high fever. I disliked how everybody even her dad treated her so bad.
Aunt Baba- Aunt Baba was Adeline's favorite person. She was very nice to Adeline, she was always praising her accomplishments, and checking her homework. Aunt Baba never got married. Adeline says in the book that Aunt Baba was always gentle, patient, and wise. They loved each other very much.
I liked how Aunt Baba was always there for Adeline when she needed her, she always gave Adeline money for school even when she was not supposed to. I can understand why Adeline loved her alot. I didn't like when they sent Adeline to boarding school because she wasn't able to see Aunt Baba.
My Thoughts- Chinese Cinderella is one of the best books I have ever read. It was a great book I really loved it. This book was both sad and and great. I felt bad when their dog killed her little duck Adeline was really sad. What I think influenced Adeline Yen Mah to write this book was her language, history, and culture because in this books she talks alot about her language, history, and culture.
Reading Stratergies- While I was reading this book I used some of the seven habits of a highly Proficient reader. The one I used the most was the mental image. While I was reading,in my mind I could see what I was reading it helped me alot because I could understand what I was reading much more better.
Author Information The author of the book Chinese Cinderella is Adeline Yen Mah. She has also written Falling Leaves. I liked Chinese Cinderella because she was very descriptive in the book and it was easier for me to understand.
